The location could be Nappanee, Indiana, or somewhere in Kosciusko County, Indiana, possibly Claypool. A descendant of John and Elizabeth Wilson, Daniel Wilson, has provide the identification of most of the people in this photograph.

John Benjamin Wilson (1823 - 1903) was married twice. His first wife was Mary Elizabeth Crockett (1831 - 1869). They were married 23 November 1847 in Stark County, Ohio. To Benjamin and Elizabeth were born seven Children, Osse Sarah (1848-1849), Benjamin, (1850-1919), James Robert (1852-1915) Edgar Farmer (1854-1905), William K. (1856-1923), Horace (1858-?), Laura (1861-1862), Lewis (1863-1865) and Mary (1869-1869). Elizabeth died in April of 1869, possibly with the birth of her last child.

On 22 December 1870, John married Susan Barbara Adams in Kosciusco County Indiana. To John and Susan were born four children, Isaac (1871-1942), Monroe (1873-1957) Harvey Davidson, (1877-) and Fanny Rose (1882-1964).

In this photograph the first three people on the left, Tressa Ethel Wilson (1879-1931) James Robert Wilson and Elizabeth Rosette Frymire Wilson (1858-1907) are the only ones we can positively identify. They are the mother and grandparents of Miriam Field Grasz to whom this web site is dedicated. Daniel Wilson, a descendant of Edgar Farmer Wilson and Florence Isabel Keesey, feels that the people seated in the front row to the right of Rosette Frymier are John B. Wilson and Sarah Barbara Adams. Continuing to the right is Edgar Farmer his wife, Florence Isabel Keesey (later to become Mrs. Samuel Beeber), Benjamin Wilson and his wife whose name we do not know. The men in the first row are the sons of Elizabeth Crockett.

Standing are the children of Susan Adams and others. The first person could be Emma Wilson (1879-1958). She was a daughter of John and Rosette. The little girl may be Opal Marie Barns (1903-1992). The next woman to the right also with a baby is unidentified. The next man is Isaac Wilson and his wife Jane Vankirk (1872-1950). Then Monroe Wilson (1873-1943), Fanny Rose with a little girl who could be Roxie G. Kist. Fanny Rose married Charles M. Kiste 8 March 1903.

If this photograph were taken in late summer of 1904 Emma s child Opal, would have been about 14 months old and Fanny child Roxie, would have been about four months old which fits the little girls in the photo. Emma also had two boys by that time. Raymond would have been four and Defoe would have been two. They might be the two young boys seated on the ground.

Click on the photo for a larger image.
