"The first grist mill in White River Township was of round logs and built by Keen Fields. It was run by horse power and was provided with one set of buhrs. Each customer furnished his own power during those days and provided his own bolt. The first style of bolt was a box-shaped invention, with straight handle and wire bottom, and was termed a "sarch." The ground grist was placed in this sarch and was pushed by hand back and forth across the top of an open trough a hollowed log, which held the flour after being sifted out. -March 1820 Anna Field and her son, Abraham, appear in Gibson County Court. She laid a claim against the estate of her deceased husband, Keen Field, in the amount of forty dollars per year for raising the five youngest children from the 23 of January 1818 to the 23 of January 1820. She was granted 600 dollars.

-September 1823 Anna Field again appears in court. This time she is appointed guardian to her children, Ezekeal, Keen, Ruben, Thomas, Steven and Joseph. The six children appeared with her and stated that they would like her as their guardian. She is then appointed and granted another five hundred dollars.
